Q: I have an itchy, bumpy rash in and around my belly button. It’s also quite smelly and the spots are now weeping. How can i get rid of this irritation?

A: The sounds like an infection in your belly button. One possibility is that you’re allergic to nickel the metal which most buttons and snaps on jeans and pants are made of. This constant rubbing against your navel could trigger an infection. If this is the case, try wearing cotton underwear up to your belly button, so skin contact with the metal is not possible. While the face gets moisturized, buffed, and babied, most necks are lucky to get a spritz of perfume now and then-and the difference shows. “The neck is a dead giveaway,” writes Nora. “You have to cut open a redwood tree to see how old it is, but you wouldn’t have to if it had a neck.” Nora is right. The neck really does show signs of aging faster than the face, which is supported by a nourishing cushion of subcutaneous tissue that’s rich with blood vessels and oil glands. (Try pinching both areas to compare, and you’ll see the difference). (more…)
